Contest over, life continues

He shoots, he scores!

That was my facebook message yesterday when I found out I had been the biggest loser in the office contest. I am very excited to have won the contest, but more importantly to be launched successfully on my journey to a healthier life. It’s a long road, so having milestones like this contest win are important when we have a lot to lose. I have started setting future short term goals, to keep up my motivation until I have lost the weight and changed my beliefs and attitudes about food. (more…)

Weigh-in week 4

// October 20th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Journal

With just 2 days left in my 30 day Biggest Loser challenge at work, I am rolling along. I didn’t quite make my goal of 5 pounds, but I was really close. I am within a pound or so of my goal for the 30 days. When I make it, I should have pretty good control of the contest, but as you might have read in my previous post, the contest is secondary. I will be posting a 30 day summary of my actual numbers this weekend! (more…)

Keeping my eyes on THE prize!

// October 20th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Journal

I just want to let everyone know that this post is kind of a personal one. It is also one where I will share a bit of my faith, so if you’re uncomfortable with it, I wanted to let you know up front. I think you’ll enjoy it, but I know some people will not.  So, in this post you will find out a bit more about me and how I lose weight. I’ll share what motivates me and what drives me when I am focused.

The end of my 30 day challenge is closing now, my final weigh in will be Friday morning! I will also be weighing in tonight (my weekly weigh in) and I expect a good week. I believe I will make my 5 pound goal. When I do make it, I will stand a chance of walking away with the contest prize. In fact, I almost hope one of the other contestants wins, because as well as I did, if they also moved far along their weight loss goals, I will be so happy for them. (more…)

Weigh-in week 3

// October 13th, 2009 // 3 Comments » // Journal

Well, I still wasn’t perfect this week. However, I did make some pretty good choices. I was anxious going into the weigh in today, because this week was the first week I had set a goal. Last week, I set the goal of 5 pounds for this week. I thought setting a goal was wise, since I only have 9 days after today. I have John Sestina to thank for that. He taught me the value of setting goals!

The good news is that I made my goal. I lost 5 pounds exactly. I’m very excited about making the goal. Several people in the contest are saying that they are not doing well, so I only have one competitor left. She seems to be very steady, so there could be some serious competition. (more…)

Weigh-in week 2

// October 6th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Journal

Two weeks down! I had been looking forward to my weigh in all week, hoping I would lose a bunch more weight. Then, I worked 11 hours today, which causes issues with having the right food available, and there were all sorts of unplanned issues at work, so it was a bit stressful too! Thank goodness this day is done.

I’m halfway through my 30 days at the end of the day tomorrow. As I said, I was a bit worried about this week. I haven’t followed the diet exactly and I made some judgment calls along the way. The problem with making judgment calls this early in the cycle is that we tend to fall back into old habits. We haven’t fixed the new choices and the new habits into our memory yet. (more…)

Weigh-in week 1

// September 30th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Journal

I weighed in last night at the Jewish Hospital Weight Loss Center on Galbraith Road. It is one of the few places I can weigh in, so I try to make friends with the office staff.

Well, I won’t reveal the exact weight loss just yet because of the contest, but it was a great week! Of course, anyone who has dieted knows that there is initial water-weight that comes off, but I think I still had a good loss, even with water accounted for. (more…)

Initial weigh-in, first day of contest

// September 23rd, 2009 // Comments Off // Journal

Wow, I really put it back on. I videotaped my first weigh-in, because I’m sure, as trusting as they are, the people in my office contest will have a hard time believing how much I lose in 30 days.

I will be following a diet that I used over 20 years ago. It was developed and used by a weight loss center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. That is where I found this resource. It is the diet I will be using for the 30 day challenge. I may or may not continue this diet long term, but it has good qualities that help me change habits that I have picked up over the last few years. Changing food relationships are the most important long term change we can make. (more…)
